And They're Done!

"Christ, you know it ain't easy, you know how hard it can be; The way things are going — they're gonna crucify me." – The Ballad of John and Yoko, The Beatles

My I-Pod randomly played the Ballad of John and Yoko this morning and this line perfectly summed up finals for me. Ok, they didn’t quite crucify me, but it sure felt like they were going to at times.

This semester I had 5 exams in 13 days for a total of 13.5 hours of taking exams. I cant really explain how much work these exams take. I miss college when I could spend two hours looking over my notes and book and walk away with an A in the class. Law school is a completely different game. I spend an average of 30 hours of studying per class just to feel like I can walk into the exam and not embarrass myself. For 5 classes that’s a total of 150 hours of studying in the last 2.5 weeks, plus study groups, and the actual exams. It also doesn’t help that I can barely sleep during finals, although I’m in bed for 8-9 hours I only actually sleep 5-6 of those hours. It’s an immense amount of time, stress, pressure, and all around hell.

Enough with the self-pitying bitching; Kara (law school bestie) and I often remind ourselves that we signed up for this. Law school isn’t all bad; I have learned a lot this past year about myself and the law. I’ve learned how far I can push myself, and what I need to do to balance school, work, and family. As far as the law goes, I feel like I can finally see some patterns developing, and I can see how different areas of the law fit together.

Now the waiting game begins…hopefully I won’t have to wait too long to get my grades back. Sometimes waiting for my grades can be almost as stressful as the exams themselves. Professors can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 weeks to get grades back, so it will be quite awhile before I hear anything.

Summer this year should be less crazy than last year since I’m not planning a wedding! Although I’m not sure how relaxing it will be. I have about 10 days off before summer school starts. I’m taking two classes: Income Tax, and The Fundamentals of Business Finance. Other than that I’ll still be working, and trying to get a little sun in!

Woah…this got long. Ill end by saying I’m very happy to say that I’m officially a 3L and have at least 3 months before I’ll hear my least favorite question: “How’s law school?”
