I'm sure you've all heard by now that Minneapolis/St. Paul got a TON of snow over the weekend. Probably, because you can't go anywhere on the internet without seeing that video of the Metrodome's roof caving in (that is a pretty funny video, btw). Well, in case you are one of the two people in the world who haven't heard, or seen the video, I figured I should blog about it.
I learned Thursday night that we were supposed to get snow on Friday night and Saturday. I wasn't happy since I was supposed to head to William Mitchell to proctor the LSAT on Saturday morning. I figured it would probably be more of an annoyance than anything, well turns out the snow would pretty much shut the city down.
By Friday afternoon, it became clear that the storm was going to be pretty big. I was forced to bail on proctoring, because I knew I shouldn't, and couldn't, run around the city at 6 1/2 months pregnant in a foot of blowing snow (it didn't matter anyway the LSAT ending up being canceled). On Friday night, I was more worried for Morgan than for myself. We had gone to the store to stock up on groceries for the week so I knew I would be fine here, but Morgan was supposed to go to drill all weekend at Fort Snelling. I was really worried that Morgan would make it to drill in the morning and then not be able to make it home for the remainder of the weekend. Thankfully on Saturday morning, Morgan woke up to find drill canceled!
So Morgan and I were suddenly left with a free Saturday together - a snow day! It was great, when we woke up there were about 6-8 inches of snow already on the ground. We spent the whole day just relaxing and hanging out together with the dogs. The snow continued all day. It also ended up getting super windy which caused the snow to drift pretty badly. The snow finally stopped at around 7:30 pm. We were left with around 17 inches of snow on the ground, with some pretty large drifts.
This storm ended up shutting the whole city down. The city buses were pulled off the street. The plows had to be pulled off for awhile (because of the horrible blowing wind). Events all over town were canceled. And we were snowed in. Because of the large amounts of snow Morgan and I were stuck in the house again today. The roads had too much snow for us to get the Avalon out of the driveway. Bummer, another day we were "forced" to spend together cooking, watching TV, and watching movies. (Really it was the best weekend ever!)

This was our street on Friday afternoon. Yes, those are two giant Turkeys, they were just hanging out. Weird. |

This was our street by Saturday afternoon. Somewhere around 10" had fallen at this point. |

This was the snow drift on the side of our house by Saturday afternoon, its half way up a 5' tall fence. |

This was our street this morning. Morgan ended up having to snow-blow 4 times (an hour each time) to keep everything clear. |

Its kind of hard to see, but at the end of the path is the street. The giant snow wall at the end is the amount of snow on our street alone. At this time the plow has still NOT come by. Thankfully, the plow made it to the street behind our house so Morgan will be able to make it to work tomorrow. |
