I posted a picture of Hen using his rainbow rice shaker in my first Tot School post, so I figured I would do a quick tutorial here. Its so easy, and a great sensory toy for toddlers.
Hopefully, someday Henry will get over his need to shove everything in his mouth and we can play with it in an open bucket.
Here's what you need:
Rice - I used minute rice (and even some pasta), but I think you could use any type of rice or pasta
Food coloring
White vinegar
Plastic sandwich bags
Cookie sheet
To Make:
Place 1/2 cup rice in a plastic bag. Add desired amount of food coloring, I used 5-6 drops. Then add 1 tablespoon of vinegar. Mix it all up so that the color is spread evenly - this would be a great time for a toddler to get in there and help. Then, empty the bag onto a cookie sheet and let the rice dry. And enjoy - its that simple.
