Sometimes being an adult is awesome -- I had a cookie for breakfast! Other times, not so much. You have responsibilities that you just can get away from, even when you really really want to. This year's 4th of July fit into the later category.
Every year we go up north to a cabin with Morgan's family. The entire family is there and we have a ton of fun. This year, we had to bail. With the 4th being on a Wednesday, Morgan and I just couldn't take that much time off from our jobs. Honestly, with the nature of our jobs, its likely to happen again in the future.
But, Morgan and I made the best of it. And, I think we have a new tradition for those times we can't make it up to the cabin. We went to the Minnesota Zoo!! The Zoo offers a military discount over the 4th, so we only had to pay a very tiny portion of what it would normally cost!
Henry was in a terrible mood all day for no apparent reason, so he looks grumpy in almost every picture from the zoo. We still had a blast, and the zoo was empty. It was great. Hen loved the animals, and the splash pad. Sadly, it was over 100 degrees that day, so we could only stay for a couple hours.
One funny story. Morgan and Hen were in a little cave looking at some animal. But Morgan kept teasing Hen and saying "don't bump your head, watch your head" even though Henry had plenty of room. Poor short baby was bent down walking so funny the whole time. Morgan and I almost died laughing. We're mean. See:
Later that day, my family came up and we made some brats on the grill!
I can't wait for next year, when Henry will be a little more aware and we can go see some fireworks! {And here are some random pictures of Hen in his outfit -- totally not taken on the 4th. Oops}
What did you do over the 4th of July? Have any family traditions? Or are you planning on starting any? Link up and share!
