As I mentioned last week, I've made a list of plans and goals that I want to keep in mind as Henry and I move forward with tot school.
- Have fun!
- If Henry is done with an activity -- be done. Don't push anything on him.
- Incorporate more music and math into tot school activities.
- Do tot school earlier in the day when Henry is more patient.
- Take tot school vacations if tensions run too high.
- Stimulate in a way that avoid electronics.
- Focus on imagination as well as critical thinking. Not everything needs to be planed.
- Work on at least one skill per week including fine and gross motor, sorting, and matching.
- Start incorporating letters in small amounts.
- Review previous concepts.
Keeping these goals in mind, I'm in the process of creating more structured plans for tot school. I think that having written structured plans will help take reduce my stress, and just make physical preparation a lot easier. I found this at Target's dollar spot which will hopefully work for planning.
So far we've been working on colors, but we are coming to an end on that. Henry can identify almost all of the colors we have worked on {when he feels like it} so I feel comfortable moving on.
Right now we are working on the color brown. Next, we will move on to grey, tan, and finally rainbow {multi-colored}. I may add a review week at the end -- but we will see.
Next were going to move on to shapes -- which I'm guessing will take us 3-4 months. After shapes, I plan to reevaluate where Henry is and how we want to move forward. It may be that he will be ready to move to numbers and letters. Or we may circle back through colors. I think at this point, there's no way to know.
