This week our shape for tot school was oval and our theme was Halloween. However, we had some big road blocks to tot school this week. Henry has been {and still is} sick with some sort of stomach/coughing bug. Also, our printer broke which we decided not to replace before we move next week, so that limited some of our projects.
Our activity wall was pretty much stayed the same. I had a few oval and Halloween magnets but Henry wasn't really into them. The felt board was full of different sized ovals, but Hen was much more interested in the big orange rectangle from last week.
The tot trays were alright this week. I don't know if Hen didn't like the activities or if he just wasn't feeling up to tot school, but nothing was super exciting to him. The first tray was a big shape puzzle. Henry had never seen it before, and I was super surprised how quickly he got all of the shapes correctly. He didn't even need my help putting the pieces in!
The second tray was a candy-corn shaped game I found at Target's dollar spot. I don't know how it was actually supposed to be played. But I used it for some fine-motor and color sorting practice. It came it orange, yellow, and black pegs so I painted the black pegs white. Hen was pretty good at matching the colors but had a hard time getting the pegs into the holes.
The final tray was a size sorting activity. Henry had large and small pumpkins then ovals to sort them into. I made big pumpkins and small pumpkins from hand since our printer was broken, so I apologize for their rough appearance. We have just started working on size, so Hen was a little confused about what to do. Even by the end of the week, he wasn't sorting the pumpkins with that much accuracy.
The book bin this week had a few new books about Halloween, but I couldn't find any oval specific books this time. Henry really enjoyed Boo! Baby by Margaret Miller, he couldn't get enough of all the baby faces.
Other things we did this week included:
Had a tot school play date with some friends. Henry really enjoyed playing with other kids at tot school. This makes me seriously consider doing a tot school co-op.
Made a "shape" jack 'o' lantern pumpkin.
Played with chalk.
