Well, my first medicated cycle was a bust. We officially found out the day after we returned from Chicago. Ugh, it was not exactly how I wanted to return from vacation, but it is what it is.
Prior to the first cycle ending, Morgan and I went back and forth about what we would do if the cycle was a failure. With the outrageous costs associated with fertility treatments, we knew at the start we weren't going to be able to do this for long. Well, after learning it was going to cost us around $1,000 a cycle we really had no choice but to keep treatments to a minimum. Long story short, we figured that we should know it was our last cycle going into it and decided to try one more time before taking an indefinite break from trying to conceive.
Friday was my first ultrasound for the cycle and the appointment we expected to start our final round of Clomid. Instead, we got very different news -- cysts. During the {CD 3} ultrasound, we discovered 6 large cysts ranging from 20 mm to just over 50 mm. So, medicated cycle number 2 -- total bust. I should have known bad things were to come when this was the magazine in the exam room --
Because of the cysts, I will not be allowed to take any medications this month. We can still try on our own, but we've all seen how well that's gone over the last 18 months.
While cysts are a known risk of taking Clomid, they are one of those "1 percent of users" side effects. So, more tough luck.
I am really glad we decided to be monitored on the Clomid though. Without monitoring we would never have known about cysts and taking more Clomid could have caused a serious medical issue.
So, now we wait. Hopefully the cysts will go away on their own and quickly so we can resume treatment with the Clomid. So far, they suck and have been causing me a decent amount of pain. Later today, I'm going to have a saline infused sonogram to make sure there is no scar tissue or other abnormality causing issues with implantation. Hopefully that will go smoothly, cause I'm so over this bad news.
