We've used these every spring since Hen was 2-years-old and Henry still loves them. They are an interesting fine motor challenge, plus colorful and inviting!

To Make the Button Flowers

  • 6 Popsicle sticks
  • 6 large buttons
  • Matching felt -- regular or stiffened felt would work great
  • Hot glue

First thing you need to do it cut small flowers {about 3" wide} and a small slit in the center of each. The slit needs to be small so that it rests on the button or else it will just slide down the stick. Then glue one button to the edge of the stick. Larger buttons work best {like the bee in my pictures} if the button doesn't extend past the stick the felt will have a harder time resting on the button.

And, that's it! Add the sticks to a small flower pot of rainbow rice and you have a lovely spring-themed practical life work. Placing the flowers on the buttons is great fine-motor and practical life practice. For an older child, color matching is a bonus!

Do your children enjoy color matching? What fun projects are you working on this spring?
