Shortly after Augustus turned 1-year-old, he started walking in earnest. As he has been perfecting his walking and other gross motor skills, toys and shelf-work has taken a MAJOR backseat for him. He just isn't as interested in sitting still to complete a stacker or puzzle. And, as he has gotten older he's less interested in oral exploration of rattles and things like that. These factors have combined to mean that Gus just doesn't use toys as much as he did between 10 and 12 months.
But, he still has materials available. And, you may notice that many have a gross motor component to them! So, if you have a new walker, or young 1-year-old that won't play with toys, or won't play with many toys, don't feel discouraged. These are some of the things that have been available to Gus, but don't get the impression that these are used all day, every day!

Here are Gus' toys by column from left to right:
- Imbucare Box - a precursor to shape sorting
- Box with bins - perfect for hiding little objects, this one has just been introduced at 14 months
- DIY coin box
- Ring Stacker
- Music Box - he listening to a similar one (it broke) as a baby, but now can turn it himself
- DIY Velcro block
- Pounding Bench - he doesn't use the hammer much, but loves to remove and place the pegs
- Sliding Box
- Nesting Boxes - thee are large so provide a good gross motor challenge
- Staking cups
- Horizontal ring disks - one of Augustus' favorites

- DIY ball drop -- another favorite because of the gross motor challenge of tipping the container over

- Ball Run - he loves the large size
I also want to be clear that Gus doesn't have access to all of these things at one time. I chose a few to have available and rotated based on any needs I saw. Many of these have been out for months, and some have just been introduced. Follow your own child when making material choices!
