It's been awhile since I've shared some of the Montessori spaces in our home. As our kids get older, the spaces grow and change to meet their needs. Its a slow evolution with the child, changes that we have made over years to create a prepared environment that works best for all of us! So, here are some snapshots of some of the areas of our home.
This is just one example of how Montessori can look in a home, your prepared environment should fit your children's needs! If you're looking for help creating your prepared environment, don't miss Cultivating Spaces. My course on making changes to your home returns in October, the course will open for sale in late September.

Playroom
Currently: Used mostly by Nora (4y) and Gus (21m).
My favorite feature: the light, and the access to the outdoors! Right now, the playroom is definitely seeing less play as my kids are outside so often.
Most asked question: Where are the shelves from? IKEA, Besta frames.
Art Area
Currently: This room is used equally by all the kids!
My favorite feature: The storage options! I love that there is a place for Gus to work, but also places where he can't access everything (but the older kids can!)
Current favorite material: We just got these Stabilo color pencils and my kids cannot stop using them!
Most asked question: There are two for this space: "What table is that?" It's this one. And "Where is your microscope from?" It's this one.
Kitchen
Currently: This room is used equally by all the kids!
My favorite feature: The workspace for Gus and Nora, it's just the perfect height for them.
Current favorite material: It's definitely their workspace, they do so much food prep on it!
Most asked question: "Where is the kitchen from?" It's from Community Playthings.
Reading Area
Currently: This room is used equally by all the kids!
My favorite feature: The plants which I'm desperately trying to keep alive - I'm so bad at that!
Current favorite material: The books are always their favorite. Gus currently loves Carl's Afternoon in the Park; Nora loves Mog the Forgetful Cat; Henry loves Barefoot Book of Children.
Most asked question: "Where is your rug from?" It's this one.
Other Spaces
Other spaces include (clockwise): Gus' main floor potty area, Henry/Nora's bedroom, Henry's work shelves, dining area.
These aren't all the spaces in our home, but they are the ones that we really live in most of the time. Mainly it's the details that help to give the kids independence that I most enjoy and that I find most valuable to our Montessori home!
What is your favorite Montessori space in your home? Or what will be the first space you would like to create?
