The OG Kavanaugh family Montessori baby is already just about 9-years-old! 🤯 I can't believe that in just a few short days, Nora will done with third-grade and turning 9. Time really does fly. I honor of her celebration, I figured I would the things on her birthday list. Each of these Montessori friendly birthday gifts has been chosen by Nora, she won't end up with all of these, but we'll have to see what we choose.
Remember these gifts are specific to Nora's interests. As Montessori parents we want to make sure the things in our environment are meeting the interests and skills of the children actually in front of us. So use this as inspiration but keep your own child's interests in mind.
Montessori Friendly Toys for 9-year-olds
First, I was really surprised how few toys she put on her list this time. I wasn't expecting to be at this point so quickly! The toys on her list were:
- "A Blue Bike" - Woom 5, my choice. She already has a 4 and even after hard use it is in perfect condition to hand down which is what we need in a bike. I'm personally on the fence about if she needs a new bike this summer or not.
- Grapat Lucky - She loves that her favorite toys have a blind bag type surprise option now
9-year-old Montessori Practical Life Ideas
The next category of things on her list fall into "practical life" sorts of things, mostly care of self. I'm thinking of putting a little box of these together for her as one of her gifts since they are mostly individually pretty small.
- Water Bottle Holder for Bike: Her current bike doesn't have one
- Nail Polish - she loves this kind
- Claw Clips for Hair - I'm out of my area of expertise here! But I think these mini ones are cute, but so are these slightly larger ones.
- Hair Scrunchies - so many options here too!
Art Ideas for Montessori 9-Year-Olds
The last big category of her wish list includes art supplies. This is one area that Nora still spends a lot of her time, so I wasn't surprised to see these on the list.
- "Art Kits:" is all Nora wrote but here are a couple I have my eye on for her: Paint Your Own Pot | Garden Stepping Stone Mosaic
- Water Bottle Stickers - I love these dog stickers for her
- Fancy Pens: She loves all things Ooly, so I have my eye on these colored fountain pens and these vibrant gel pens
There are so many fun directions to take these ideas that it's going to be hard for me to pull together the two presents we get! I'm leaning toward one "art" present and one "practical" present.
