It's spooky season and my kids. getting super excited! There is constant chatter about Halloween costumes and our trick-or-treating route around the neighborhood. Along with cooler weather and darker evenings our Montessori home is also filled with some of their favorite books - our Halloween collection.
Like with so many seasonal changes and holidays, there are tons of amazing Montessori friendly children's books that you can get to celebrate the holiday. Here I wanted to share those that make our list and get read over and over again with my five kids. A few of these choices are for younger toddlers, but most are for about 3 to 9-year-olds.
Montessori Home: Halloween Books
Now, everyone has different comfort levels when it comes to fantasy as a Montessori parent. We personally avoid most fantasy during the first plane of development with our kids. But, it's not a huge deal if we have a little here and there. Halloween is one of those times where it is difficult to engage in the celebration if we eliminate fantasy altogether.
So, more than a lot of our Montessori friendly books these contain fantasy. So, I've broken them down into categories, and you can make a decision about what is appropriate for your kids and family. Realistic choices have no fantasy. The light fantasy has a little but it's subtle and not really a plot point. The heavy fantasy category is where the fantastical scenario is featured heavily.
